Tik Tok and the Power of Word of Mouth

This past weekend I attend Daisho Con at the Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells. The week prior I had been consuming a lot of GaryVee content on LinkedIn. Within the content he talked about Tik Tok. This inspired me to create a last minute cosplay.

This cosplay was of Tik Tok.

We arrived to the hotel early Thursday, and that night I started to wear my Tik Tok cosplay. I carried a sign that asked people to follow me on Tik Tok. (The sign included Instagram and Twitter for those who did not have Tik Tok.)

I started off with about 12 followers on Thursday morning. I ended the convention with over 600.

One person I met on Friday decided to talk to me throughout the convention to see how many I had gained over the weekend.

I continued to make videos throughout the convention, continued to wear the cosplay, and just have fun talking to people but making sure to mention it.

By Saturday, it had become an experiment to me.

I am a marketing student at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC), with an emphasis in digital marketing. Friday night, I realized I had a great opportunity to see how combining word of mouth and creating content could generate an audience.

I plan to continue to make Tik Toks, as well as wear the cosplay. It is one of the most fun costumes I have created! I hope to maintain this audience I have gained, and create content they will continue to enjoy!
